Description
The Piper Archer II (PA-28-181) is one of general aviation’s most popular, reliable, and enduring four-seat, single-engine aircraft. Introduced by Piper in 1976 as an evolution of the Cherokee 180 and original Archer, it remains a mainstay for flight training, personal touring, and regional commuting.
- Design & Airframe: Features a low-wing, aluminum airframe with fixed tricycle landing gear. The Archer II introduced the tapered "semi-tapered" wing design, which improved roll control, handling at low speeds, and overall aerodynamic efficiency compared to the earlier Hershey-bar wings.
- Engine & Performance: Powered by a 180 hp Lycoming O-360-A4M four-cylinder engine paired with a fixed-pitch propeller. It offers a comfortable cruise speed of around 115 to 125 knots, a range of approximately 450 to 500 nautical miles, and a fuel burn of roughly 9 to 10 gallons per hour of Avgas.
- Cabin & Utility: Accommodates four adults with a dedicated aft baggage area accessible via an exterior door. Known for stable, forgiving handling characteristics and docile stall behavior, it is widely considered an ideal platform for both student pilots and instrument-rated owners looking for predictable operational costs.
